There are two main routes. The VA may authorize in-home care through its Community Care Network, which requires an agency that is an approved provider. Separately, the Aid and Attendance pension benefit pays the veteran or surviving spouse monthly, and they can use it to pay a private agency.
VA rules and approval times change, so the best first step is to talk to the VA social worker at your local VA medical center or a county Veterans Service Officer. Both are free.
Who it's for
Veterans and surviving spouses who want care at home and want to know whether VA benefits can help pay for it.
What we can do for veterans
If you receive the Aid and Attendance pension, you can use it to pay for our care (example).
Call your county Veterans Service Officer for help with the application. It's free (example).

What we don't do
We're a non-medical agency. Caregivers don't give injections, change wound dressings or handle other nursing tasks. If your family member needs that, we can work alongside a home health or hospice provider.
The easiest way to start is a phone call. Tell us what's going on and we'll tell you honestly whether we can help.
